Michael A.Tobin Latorre
Penn State Biomedical Engineering student specializing in biomechanics, FEA, and medical device design. Future Army officer committed to advancing healthcare through engineering innovation.
Engineering with Purpose
“Bridging the disciplines of biomedical engineering and military leadership to create meaningful impact in healthcare and beyond.”
I'm a Biomedical Engineering student at Penn State with a focus on biomechanics, combining technical expertise in finite element analysis and medical device design with the leadership skills developed through Army ROTC.
My academic work spans heart valve design using FEA and fluid-structure interactions, tissue-engineered modeling, and humanitarian engineering projects. I've developed data-driven platforms to connect funders with community programs and redesigned malnutrition measuring devices for under-developed regions.
Beyond the classroom, I've gained hands-on experience as an Optical Engineering Intern at Xcimer Energy, developing FEA post-processing programs, and as an auto-mechanic's assistant, building practical problem-solving skills. I'm preparing to commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army National Guard.
